The Wegovy pill is the first oral GLP-1 approved for chronic weight management. It contains semaglutide, the same active ingredient as the Wegovy injection, taken as a daily tablet. This guide explains what it costs in 2026 at each dose, with and without insurance, and how that compares with the injection. Prices were checked against published NovoCare pricing in early October 2026; confirm the current price before you order.

How much does the Wegovy pill cost without insurance?

Without insurance, the lowest manufacturer price is through NovoCare Pharmacy, Novo Nordisk’s self-pay pharmacy. The price depends on your dose: $149 a month for 1.5 mg, $199 a month for 4 mg, and $299 a month for 9 mg and 25 mg. A limited-time $149 price on the 4 mg dose ended on August 31, 2026. At a regular retail pharmacy, the list price is about $1,349 a month.

Because the dose increases over the first few months, your monthly cost usually rises from $149 to $299. Budget for the maintenance price, not the starting price. You still need a prescription from a licensed clinician; many online GLP-1 programs can provide one.

How much does the Wegovy pill cost with insurance?

If your commercial insurance covers Wegovy, Novo Nordisk’s savings card can bring the cost down to as little as $25 a month, subject to the program’s terms. Many plans exclude medicines used only for weight loss, and most that cover them require prior authorization. Check your plan’s formulary before you start, and read our GLP-1 insurance coverage guide if you need to file an appeal.

Does Medicare cover the Wegovy pill?

Medicare has traditionally excluded drugs used only for weight loss. Since July 1, 2026, eligible Medicare Part D members can access Wegovy for $50 a month through the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge program. NovoCare self-pay pricing is not available to Medicare beneficiaries. See our Medicare and GLP-1 guide for the eligibility details.

Is the Wegovy pill cheaper than the injection?

Yes, at most doses. Through NovoCare, the Wegovy injection (pen) costs $199 a month for a new patient’s first two fills on the starting doses (an offer running through December 31, 2026) and then $349 a month; the higher-dose Wegovy HD 7.2 mg pen is $399. The pill tops out at $299 a month.

Price is only one factor. The pill is taken every day and has specific instructions on how to take it, while the injection is once a week. Ask your clinician which form suits you; our GLP-1 pill vs shot guide compares results and side effects.

What is the cheapest way to get the Wegovy pill?

  • With commercial insurance that covers it: use the savings card (as little as $25 a month).
  • On Medicare Part D: check the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge ($50 a month for eligible members).
  • Without coverage: NovoCare Pharmacy self-pay ($149 to $299 a month by dose).
  • Low income and uninsured: ask about Novo Nordisk’s patient assistance program.

Some telehealth programs bundle a clinician visit with brand-name medication, which can add a membership fee on top of the medication price. Add every fee with our GLP-1 cost calculator before you sign up.

Will the Wegovy pill price change in 2027?

Novo Nordisk has announced a lower list price for Wegovy of $675 a month, effective January 1, 2027. List price mainly affects insurance and retail pricing; self-pay prices through NovoCare are set separately. We will update this page when 2027 pricing is published.
